Palestine, Intifada Patterns Tatreez Kit for Beginners
Folkglory x Tiraz Centre Intifada Embroidery Kit
This embroidery kit is a collaboration between Folkglory Design and the Tiraz Centre. The tatreez patterns featured in this kit were meticulously studied, analyzed, and sourced from Intifada dresses in the Widad Kawar Collection.
About the Intifada Dress
When the first Intifada began on December 9, 1987, a new dress, thobe, appeared that was not embroidered with traditional patterns. Instead, it featured political and cultural symbols – Palestinian flags, the Dome of the Rock, maps of Palestine, and olive branches. The dresses showcased the Palestinian flag's red, green, white, and black colours, sometimes with the flag embroidered or appliquéd on the chest panel. These dresses were made in defiance of the Israeli ban on public display of these colours and following the imprisonment of Palestinian artists who used them in their paintings.
